During a thunderstorm, I became conscious of the analogy between the storms in nature and those in our lives. I see so many people who are sad and depressed because of some personal hardship or disappointment, and the feeling seems to be difficult to overcome. The cost in personal joy and contentment is extremely high. We cannot stop those dark clouds that sweep into our lives, but whether or not there is a silver lining is mostly up to us. So I offer this for the reader’s consideration:
Do not curse the storm! It blows away dead limbs, leaves, and other
debris. The storm draws water from the ocean and distributes it over the
earth to slake our thirst, water the plants, tame the heat wave and fill
our reservoirs to carry us through the drought. It washes away pollen and
pollutants, and mixes oxygen and other life-sustaining gases into the air.
While the storm often causes some damage, it is a necessity for us.
Without it our atmosphere would be too poisonous and dry to support
life.
And so it is with other storms. Natural storms. Emotional storms. Spiritual storms. They all serve to clean, resupply, refresh, strengthen and sustain us. And none can take place outside the Will of God. We can never see the silver lining unless we allow the storm to do its work and leave us. So do not curse this blessing, but use it to your advantage as God intended.
