1st May 1997, 30th June 1997

What do the two dates above have in common ?

1st May was the day the government changed in this country (United Kingdom) and 30th June was the day the government of Hong Kong changed.

In our country being "under new management" was marked by Mr Major moving out of  Downing Street and Mr Blair moving in. In Hong Kong the change was marked by lowering the "Union Jack" and raising the Chinese flag.
In both these situations there will be changes old policies and programmes will be abandoned or reversed and new policies introduced.

When a person becomes a Christian he is under new management, the old is swept away and he is a new person.
"When anyone is joined to Christ, he is a new being; the old is gone, the new has come." (2 Corinthians Chapter 5 verse 17)
The apostle Paul viewed his new life as a vast improvement on his old life, he wrote:-
"I consider it all (my past life) as mere refuse, so that I may gain Christ." (Philippians Chapter 3 verse 8)

In this country we have an opportunity to have a new government every 4-5 years, the Chinese have waited over 100 years to re-unite with the mainland.

We don't need to wait to become a Christian, to be saved.

"Listen ! This is the hour to receive God's favour; today is the day to be saved !"

(2 Corinthians Chapter 6 verse 2)
